Paco Rabanne's women's fragrances have the same personality as the men's: they arrive before you do and they don't apologise for it.
That's a feature. These are night-out perfumes, and worn with a bit of restraint they're some of the most enjoyable bottles on any shelf.
If you love Lady Million — try Rich Women
The gold diamond bottle. Raspberry, orange blossom and honey — sweet, bright, and completely confident. It's been a bestseller since 2010 for a straightforward reason: it makes people ask.
Rich Women opens on Amalfi lemon, orange blossom and raspberry, into jasmine and gardenia. Same warmth, same brightness, and it holds through an evening.
If you love Olympéa — try Venus
The salted vanilla one. Green mandarin and ginger flower over a vanilla that's been given a salty, almost skin-like twist. It invented a whole category — every "salty" or "beach" gourmand since owes it something.
Venus brings green mandarin, ginger flower and water jasmine into vanilla with a sea-salt edge. Warm and cool at the same time, which is the trick of it.
If you love Fame — try Glaring
The newest of the famous ones. Mango and bergamot over jasmine, styrax and sandalwood — fruity up top, unexpectedly woody and dry underneath.
Glaring is mango, bergamot, jasmine, styrax, vanilla and sandalwood. Juicy at first, grown-up by the second hour.
If you love Black XS for her — try Subtil
The dark, slightly gothic one — cranberry and pink pepper over cocoa and patchouli. Sweet, but shadowed, and worn devotedly by people who don't want to smell like everyone else.
Subtil runs cranberry, pink pepper and tamarind into rose, cocoa and violet, with patchouli underneath. The most interesting bottle in this group.
How to wear them
Two sprays. These are loud fragrances and they carry. At two they're glorious; at five they're the reason someone opens a window.
They're also evening scents by nature. If you want one for the office, spray once, on the chest, and let it sit close.
Why they cost what they cost
The originals run $100 to $140 for 100 ml. Ours are around $30, at the same eau de parfum concentration, blended with quality oils sourced in Europe, vegan and cruelty-free.
