Dior has made four men's fragrances that matter, and they're four completely different ideas. That's unusual. Most houses find one formula and repeat it in different bottles.
Here's what each one does, and the D&P bottle built in the same direction.
If you love Sauvage — try Masterpiece
The most worn men's fragrance in the world right now, and the one people argue about hardest. Bergamot and pepper over ambroxan — that clean, radiant, almost electric note that projects for hours.
The criticism is that it's everywhere. The reason it's everywhere is that it works on almost everyone, in almost any setting, at almost any age.
Masterpiece runs bergamot and pink pepper into geranium and lavender, then patchouli, vetiver and labdanum underneath. Fresh up top, dry and grown-up at the bottom.
If you love Dior Homme — try Thedore
The clever one. Iris and cocoa, powdery and slightly sweet, more like a well-made suit than a night out. It changed what a men's fragrance was allowed to smell like when it landed in 2005.
Thedore opens on lavender, sage and bergamot, moves through lily and cardamom, and finishes on amber, cocoa, patchouli and leather. Soft, refined, and it doesn't shout.
If you love Dior Homme Intense — try Thedore Intense
Same idea, deeper. More iris, more vanilla, longer on the skin. This is the evening version and the one enthusiasts reach for.
Thedore Intense is iris, vanilla, amber, cedarwood and vetiver — a short ingredient list doing a lot of work. Warm, quiet and long.
If you love Fahrenheit — try Kelvin
The strange one, and the one people are most loyal to. Violet, leather and something like petrol — it sounds like a mistake and it's been in production since 1988 because it absolutely isn't.
Kelvin brings lavender, mandarin and hawthorn together with coconut, cedar, bergamot and chamomile. Odd in the same interesting way, and unlike anything else on our shelf.

Masterpiece if you want the safe compliment-getter that works everywhere.
Thedore if you want to smell like you thought about it.
Thedore Intense for cold weather and evenings.
Kelvin if you already own something safe and want the interesting bottle.
Why they cost what they cost
The originals are $110 to $160 for 100 ml. Ours are around $30. That difference is the campaign, the department store counter and the name on the glass — not the liquid.
